A pair of beautifully elegant black wall laterns by Maison Arlus France. 1950-55. Perforated black metal with brass details.
Fully original, unrestored. In a very good condition. Often the shades are damaged or they have much too white restored shades. Here the original shades are in perfect condition. By one of the laterns some wear or rust on the metal hat but actually that belongs to a nice patine (see picture).
Dimensions: height 17.7 in. (45 cm), depth 7.5 in. (19 cm) and width 7.9 inches (20 cm).
Each light has a bayonet bulb (BA15d, IEC 7004-11 A, DIN 49720).
Together with companies like Disderot, Lunel and Rispal, the Paris based firm Maison Arlus had a strong influence on the modernization of French lighting design during the 1950s. The Arlus models were obviously rooted in French Art Deco on the one hand, but show clear similarities with designs of Italian counterparts like Stilnovo and Arredoluce as well.
These lantern shaped models tend more towards the French tradition, as they show strong resemblance with the work of contemporary designers like Jean Royere, Mathieu Mategot and Andre Arbus.
Price is for the pair.

Since this light was produced and acquired in France it is equipped with original bayonet sockets. Rewiring is strongly recommended as well.
