The architect and designer Louis Kalff (1897-1976) joined Philips in 1925. Kalff set out to modernize the visual image of the company straight away, by designing both advertisements and a range of electric products. In 1946 he was appointed as Philips chief designer and head of the lighting division. In this position he designed a large number of lighting fixtures. This rare midcentury Kalff design combines cool satinized glass and warm tropical wood and it comes with new textile wire. The somewhat coarse edge on the top of the shade (out of sight) is not damaged but always remained unpolished, as it would be concealed by the wooden fixture and the metal support plate anyway (last picture).

Dimensions: diameter 13.8 in. (35 cm), height 16.7 in. (42,5 cm), height of the glass 6.9 inches (17, 5 cm) With a diameter of 13.8 inch (35 cm) the lamp on offer is the largest version from this series.
